Hello and welcome to the Sage Speaks: Astrology Observations (ed II).
With me your host, as always, Cosmic Sage.
One of the things that has long irked me when it comes to Astrology is how it’s presented across social media. As if there’s a way to either further subdivide or over generalize a sun sign to fit within people’s desires for belonging.
For example, I’m sure I’m not the only one who has seen something like this:

Or like this:

They’re fun- especially if they fit into your relationships you know?
But here’s the thing.
The teeny tiny little thing, that gets my blood boiling all the time.
Just no- no. Nuh-uh. Wrong.
Let me break it down.
“What’s so wrong with it? It’s just memes.” – you, probably
It’s because it paints the wrong picture. As I said in my last newsletter- the signs you identify with and introduce yourself as is how people can easily perceive you.
If you tell someone “Oh I’m such a Libra because I send TikTok’s all the time- and no one watches them-” thats… that’s not an introduction to your star chart dear. That’s a you thing. Not a Libra thing.
Or if you tell someone “Oh yeah, I’m a July Cancer-” that means literally nothing. Those traits split up between the June and July Cancers- are just all Cancer traits. Incorrectly assigned and split up.
“Well I heard this astrologer say they are different between months”
Yeah, that’s thanks to decans. The further break down of where the Sun was at in it’s path of when you were born, supposedly exaggerating certain traits of your sign.
First thought to be brought around by the Egyptians, dependent on sign, different planets control different decans exaggerating traits. Bolstering certains moods and feelings in people.
Which- fun fact- there’s three decans (technically) and it can’t be split into two categories like that.
Furthermore- it was an old time keeping device, and then we added the extras. So no. I don’t buy into the whole decan thing. I will never read for it. It’s just a way to get extra money and (again) to help you feel like you fit into your own neat little, person box that I talked about in the last edition.
Never pay extra for a decan reading. Never pay extra for someone to tell you that you’re a cusp. And never pay extra for anything in astrology to get further insight. Base prices are base prices, anything additional is just a scam.
“Ok, Sure- But then what’s wrong with generalizations? Didn’t you do that with “The Sun Signs as… Pop”?”
I did do that didn’t I?
and I didn’t even give an explanation.
Here’s the thing though- that’s under my just for fun section- and as I said. It can be fun. Especially when it feels like it applies to you! There’s nothing inherently wrong with it.
Where the issue comes in is in how it paints the signs when you have someone who wants to know about astrology, and actually use it-

When you’re trying to become an astrologer- or at least familiar with astrology memes aren’t a good solution
They really aren’t. As I said they paint too broad a picture, and oftentimes- it’s not even actually a personality thing- it’s just a personal habit.
For example- I have a Capricorn in my own life- and she constantly sends me reels and Facebook posts and I never watch them as an Aquarius. But also my friend who’s an Aquarius- also sends me a whole bunch of reels and TikTok’s and I never watch them.
I just don’t like watching what people send to me. It’s not a sign thing- it’s a person thing. It’s way too broad a paintbrush to actually paint a clear picture for anyone actually trying to learn astrology- it’s not a good tool.
Fun.
Not a good tool.
“What are good tools then?”
My site for starters, great tool. Beginner, novice, and expert levels, and then just basic information.
But- I grew up not having my website. You know how I learned?
Books, YouTube, and other Websites.
Tumblr was my life blood to learn, and that’s why I keep my posts up-to-date there. I also often used Cafe Astrology. One of my favorite books is called Healing With Astrology (written by Marcia Starck). Then I just started being critical about it.
Making my own personal notes, and observations. Growing upon the information that I’d taken in and figuring out my own secret little code to everything.
Here’s the thing…
We all have our own different depictions of astrology, but there’s ground rules. Basic things that can be applied no matter what.
We know Leo’s want to be at the center of it all. We know Cancer’s can get shut down and moody. And we know that Capricorn’s have stable and reliable work ethic.
Those are givens- where it changes it’s how it’s perceived and viewed through the different eyes of astrologers. No two readings are gonna be alike, because the people reading them are going to have different information backing them up- different interactions with the signs.
I’m an Aquarius who married a Cancer- wild- wild in the eyes of astrology. I’m supposed to be too aloof for their moodiness and need for emotions. But we work because in my experience- a Cancer thrives off the stability that Aquarius offers, that they know the Aquarius is going to be firm in their beliefs. If the Aquarius says they love them- they do. Vice versa- I love Cancers, I love how emotional they can be, how expressive and deep their thoughts go. It’s deep and personal.
However, if I go to another astrologer- they could very easily say that our relationship is doomed to fail. Because in the end we want and perceive ourselves way too differently for it to work.
The bottom line of it all- draw your own conclusions.
Yeah, read up on what other people say- but in the end. Your life is your own. You don’t have to listen to me, you don’t have to listen to any other astrologer, and you certainly don’t need to listen to any damn memes about it.

So Where Are We Leaving Off?
We leave off with this-
If you want to learn astrology. Memes aren’t it.
Month by Month signs aren’t it.
If you want to actually learn astrology, and actually get a good look at your own personality, take it in to your own hands. Have someone do a reading for you if you really want. Just- don’t get hooked up to the “extras” that some people can charge.
There’s a lot of people out there who want you to feel scared, and shaky on this ground. Lots of people who want to benefit off of perceived pain- so if you take anything from me at all.
Please for the love of all that’s good in this world- don’t buy more than you need to.
There’s so many free sites out there, so much information on Tumblr, you have me. I may start doing chart readings in the future- but, at the end of it all. I don’t want to sell you snake oil. None of that holistic bs that’s often accompanied by astrologers (the crystals, the herbs, the what-nots that they carry in their shops). Just good ol’ straight fashioned readings where I break down your chart.
If you want to do the holistic stuff- go for it. More power to you. Mad respect. I’m not gonna peddle it. Cause I personally, don’t really believe in it. However, I will still educate on it- if that’s the path you want to take.
There’s no easy way out when it comes to wanting to learn astrology, likewise- it’s not overtly complicated either. It just takes time, practice, and patience to fully come to terms with it as the tool it is.
Anyways- have a great Tuesday, and breathe deep.

Stay groovy, and I’ll catch you on the flip,
