Hello and welcome to the Sage Speaks: Astrology Observations (ed IV).

With me your host, as always, Cosmic Sage.

This time around we are going to be taking a look at synastry in-between two natal charts. As it’s been something that’s been on my mind a lot as of recent.

Most people, myself included, put a lot of stake in to compatibility. It speaks to how well we can connect, and speaks for a future we have yet to see. No one wants to invest their time in the wrong person, especially when we don’t have a lot of time on Earth.

Remind Me: What’s Synastry Again?

So Synastry is when you look at aspects in between two natal charts and see the compatibility between personalities. There’s a lot of different calculators out there that go through both charts and pair them up with how well they match.

I’m sure you’ve even seen some of those ads on TikTok, Facebook, and I’ve even seen on Tumblr that look like this:

Yeah- let’s just say don’t buy into every ad you see.

Nebula is a decent app, I just wish they didn’t make you have to pay to read stuff. Not only that, but this compatibility chart is- well, rough. To say the least.

Compatibility is more than just the sun signs, and as I get into it later- it’s so much more than astrology.

Sure synastry is a really good look at how you and anyone in your life’s energies are gonna mash and mix, but that can’t just be regulated to the sun sign.

That’s like saying that just because you guys have different place for where your heart wants to go that you can’t connect on any other level.

Like there’s a reason that your descendant (what you look for in other people) is opposite your ascendant. You need to have someone who pulls different energy in to your life. That’s the only way that you can grow.

So what do you look at and why?

Personally, when I look to synastry and compatibility in my readings, I look for where you are lacking certain energies. From there I go sign by sign break it down, and kind of figure out where good intermingles would be.

You want an example?

I’ll gladly give you one.

Let’s make up a person real quick-

They are:

  • Leo Sun
  • Cancer Moon
  • Gemini Rising
  • Leo Mercury
  • Virgo Venus
  • Sagittarius Mars
  • Gemini Jupiter
  • Pisces Saturn

There’s three fire, two waters, two air, and one earth. Then on top of that there is five mutable, two fixed, and one cardinal sign.

So we start to see this imaginary persons imbalance is right? There’s no groundedness, no practicality. They aren’t reasonable like most earth signs tend to be. They are lacking that in their chart.

Then they have no cardinal energy. A little- but not enough. They may have issues getting up and starting things, allowing themselves to get lost in the flow of life. They need someone or something to kickstart those plans into action.

This is where I look at synastry hard.

Personally, I would say a good match for this person is a Aries Sun, Taurus Moon, Aquarius Rising. Just for starters.

It makes really good sense- I promise-

First you have Taurus, and Aquarius pulling in some of that innovative and reliable energy that our imaginary person needs in order to feel grounded. It will help bring a stable, and innovative approach to our imaginary person. Giving them someone to rely on and help them when they feel lost in the sauce.

Then to have an Aries sun that wants to accomplish and help drive. The one who wants to complete as many tasks as possible, paired with Aquarius’ humanitarian attitude, and Taurus’ loving and caring nature-

You have someone who is meant to help bring the shine to your qualities, and help cover your weaknesses. Likewise, this person would offer the same to them- bringing in the more philosophical, go with the flow energy, laid back vibes that our “match” needs.

Plus the synastry works too-

If the planets are aligned correctly and within the orbit of each other, Aries and Leo have a trine. Cancer and Taurus have a sextile. Gemini and Aquarius have a trine. These signs innately understand each other, while also bolstering the other’s weak points.

Knowing how to speak and understand what’s going on with your partner is so incredibly important.

This is where, astrology, really takes its leave of absence. Because as I’ve said, many- many times. Astrology isn’t the end all be all of everything.

If you want somebody- truly want to make something work out with them. Then you need to go for it on your own. Astrology just tells us which vibes in the long run are gonna feel the nicest, and where we have the most understanding.

That speaks nothing to experiences, memories, or the actual lived in world.

Astrology shouldn’t be used in every aspect of your life, or as a rule book to follow. Life is so much messier and weirder than we could ever give it credit for. Astrology just doesn’t add up or cover all the places that life smooshes itself in to.

Thank you for your response. ✨

So then why even look at synastry if you can just go for what you want anyways?

As I’ve said over and over, it’s fun.

My partner and I’s synastry? Phenomenal! Crazy to look at, a lot of positive aspects. It’s fun looking through the coincidences. Seeing the little tags that are like- oh yeah I remember when we did that all the time. Keyword being did. We grew from our original positions in our synastry. We grew together as people, you know as people tend to do.

Cause you know if I had went off our synastry in the beginning. My partner’s Venus is opposite to my Sun. I couldn’t provide them what they needed in a partner, my heart wasn’t behind it. But over time, not only did they figure out a way to learn how I give affection, but I learned how to meet their needs as well. Meanwhile my Venus is trine with their sun. We get along so well, it’s actually kinda detrimental. We don’t argue when sometimes we should. Just because there’s different parts of our personalities that fit well together, that there aren’t roads that are easy to walk.

Fights and agreements. Different choices made together. Discussions through the night and day. The boring stuff. The fun stuff. The experiences that are shared between two people-

In the end that’s what determines compatibility.

If you are willing to grow together. To learn one another’s mannerisms, and learn how to interact in a loving and caring way.

I think the best way to put it, really, is that planetary synastry is like a first date compared to the rest of a relationship.

You are not going to be the same people that you were when you first started dating-

and you shouldn’t be.

So where does that leave us?

It leaves us with the reminder that astrology isn’t everything.

We grow and adapt as people constantly, and there is absolutely no reason for you to maintain the same personality that you had.

So that synastry that you find with someone originally is gonna have to change, and reconcile over time too. Sometimes a relationship that seems perfect in the beginning, stagnates and falls apart.

Overall, it’s time and patience that truly tells you how a relationship is going to play out. Whether that’s between friends, family, or partners.

It’s never as simple as it seems it’s going to be in any sense of the word. Nothing can tell us the future, or how compatible we really are with someone else.

It all leads back to that desire, and want to fit into little boxes. For someone to tell us who we are, and what we’re doing here, right?

If we fit into a specific box, then we can find the people who mesh well with that box and we can be happy forever.

But, just like I’ve said before, and will say a million times. There’s no such thing as a box, astrology is vague, and only you can really decide what’s important to you. So when looking at synastry, take the pieces that speak to you and grow from there.

It’s, in my opinion, the best way to move through life. Take what you need, leave the rest. Positive and negative. Grow and change. Become the future you.
